Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy
Established in 1992, Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy is a private higher education institution located in the large city of Tbilisi (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 250-499 students) coeducational higher education institution. Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), master degrees in several areas of study. TMA also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sport facilities and/or activities, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services.
Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) is one of the first private medical schools in Georgia with almost 25 years of experience behind its back. TMA is staffed with highly qualified academic staff and is providing medical education in accordance with international regulations and recommendations.
Study Process at Tbilisi Medical Academy is compatible with international standards. The academic faculty is represented by team of experienced professors, who have been trained in USA and Western European Countries. The Academic Process, based on ECTS system, allows students to gain international academic recognition.
Tbilisi Medical Academy offers 6 year MD program both in Georgian and English. So far, TMA has around 500 undergraduate students, including around 170 international students, mainly from USA, UK, India, Iraq, Nigeria, Bhutan, Egypt etc.

Tbilisi Medical Academy welcomes international students from around the world. The students are welcomed to commence education and to transfer from other institutions as well.
Payment plan: First year tuition fee should be paid in one installment, during the enrollment process.
From second year, tuition fee can be paid in two installments, before the commencement of each semester.
The language of instruction is – English.
In case, if an applicant doesn’t have a proof of proficiency in English, (language certificate or school-leaving document from English taught school) applicant has to demonstrate fluency to the University special comity (can be done through the Skype call).
Tbilisi Medical Academy has a Preparatory Course for the applicants, who are lacking fluency in English,) with intensive teaching for 3-6-9 months.
Required documents for admission
The required documents for application are:
• Full copy of passport
• School leaving certificate
• Filled application form and letter
• Written consent of the Rector of Tbilisi Medical academy regarding the possibility of enrollment in vacant positions within the scope of general number of students.
For transferring students:
• Copies of all pages of citizenship document
• Transcript (including gained credits and covered hours) from home university
• Registration in a foreign country, or any other document which confirms the fact of domicile of an individual territory
• Written consent of the Rector of Tbilisi Medical Academy regarding the possibility of enrollment in vacant positions within the scope of general number of students.
The admission process takes around 21-30 working days and includes translation, legalization and recognition of the applicant’s documents from the authorities of Georgia.
Visa and Immigration:
Students are required to obtain D3 Immigration visa prior their arrival to Georgia.

Currently TMA does not provide accommodation facilities, however,
Department for Student Services is always ready to help students with rentals on shared basis.
Prior commencement of Semester, it is mandatory for all students to hold valid
Local of International Medical Insurance. Prices for local insurance packages
vary from 7 up to 25 USD per month.
6 Year MD Program
Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy is successfully running a One Step Educational Program – Medicine (MD) in English since 2012. The undergraduate program is recognized by international organizations and associations, such as AMEE, EMSA, FAIMER. Tbilisi Medical Academy is working in association and is listed in the registries of WHO, AVICENA DIRECTORIES etc.
The course duration is 6 years and it is divided in three stages: Basic, Clinical and General Training. The Course provides students with an opportunity to obtain international standard education in Georgia. The curriculum is based on European & American models and it fulfills current international demands in the field of medical education. In the frames of Bologna Process, academic process at Tbilisi Medical Academy is based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which is the foundation for international recognition The goal of the program is to develop deep clinical thinking in students, to give them medical education in accordance to the international standards, based on evidences necessary for their medical practical activities; to give a deep knowledge on public healthcare system and to realize the role of doctor in this system; the elaboration of clinical and communicative skills; elaboration of the usage of modern methodology in medical practice and research; development of skills for participation in the presentation and discussion of obtained results; the elaboration of ethical values and relations significant for the profession of Medical Doctor.
The educational process is ran by highly skilled and experienced academic staff with international backgrounds. Tuition is conducted in small groups, using most up to date literature, recommended by the higher education institutions of USA and Europe. The system of examinations and student evaluation is running in accordance with international standards and demands of Bologna process, which prepares students for the international qualification examinations (USMLE, PLAB, MCI etc.) from the first stages of education and encourages internationalization. Curricula at Tbilisi Medical Academy is focused on development and strengthening of clinical skills from the first year of tuition. Students have opportunities to obtain basic skills of laboratory and clinical work and exercise them in the corresponding centers of the Academy
