Located in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province in Northeast China, the university has seven campuses in six districts that are home to 39 colleges covering 13 academic disciplines, including philosophy, international relations, economics, law, literature, education, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and military science. The university has 13 disciplinary areas, six national key laboratories, and seven national bases for the development of basic science. Other resources include five research bases for humanities and social sciences, 11 key laboratories sponsored by the Ministry of Education and 11 by other ministries.
Jilin University is one of the most prestigious "Top 10" universities in China, and has research projects in automobile engineering, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering and biology be identified as internationally renowned. JLU provides undergraduate and graduate programs in law, literature, philosophy, medicine and veterinary science etc. It is one of the key universities involved in China's Project 985, Project 211 and Project 2011

The University boasts 6 national key laboratories, and 8 national bases for the development of basic science. JLU offers a variety of degree programs. It has now 124 undergraduate programs, 311 master's degree program, 240 doctoral degree programs, and 37 post-doctoral programs. The year of 2011-2012 saw the enrollment of a total of 68132-odd full time students among whom more than 25095 are graduate students. At present there are 6540 faculty members, with 20 members of Chinese Academy of Science and/or Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 1638 full professors. The University Library claims a collection of 6.59 million books and is designated as the library of UNESCO, UNIDO and World Bank. It also serves as the Comprehensive Information Center of Liberal Arts of the Ministry of Education, the only Foreign Scientific Text Book Center in Northeast China, and the National Humanities and Social Science Higher Education Books Import Center. It is one of the seven centers of China Academic Library and Information System (CALIS) Center in Northeast China.
MBBS program in Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University is a program enrolls international undergraduates and teaches them in English medium for 6 academic years. The whole process of teaching and cultivation of international students is carried out strictly according to related international standards of medical education. In Jilin University MBBS program, international students study courses such as Physiology, Histology & Embryology, Human Anatomy, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Diagnosis, Internal Medicine, Surgery and so on. MBBS program has been given great importance by the College. Each semester, a panel of experts of the college selects competent and responsible teachers with proficiency in English as lecturers and instructors for international students. Experienced and responsible teachers who help international students with adapting to new environment and improving study in China are provided as tutors for some international students.

Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University, was named after the outstanding Canadian thoracic surgeon, Norman Bethune because of his selfless devotion to the set-up and running of the institution more than half a century ago. It is an important base with considerable scale and academic ability of medical education and research. It consists of three main teaching hospitals and school of basic medicine.
Apart from the three main teaching hospitals, there are more than 30 cooperative hospitals that provide internship resources for medical students of Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University. Capitalizing on the educational priority of a key comprehensive university, the college aims at cultivating clinical medical professionals at international level by providing medical education that is up to international standard. Since more than half a century, the institution has trained over fifty thousand medical professionals and contributed a lot in the development of medical science, medical education and public health in China.

Reminder: Usually the university will not return your application documents either you are accepted or not, so for most of China universities, scanned copy of documents is acceptable. And all documents should be in English or Chinese version.

Transportation to the University
If you cannot arrive in Changchun during the aforementioned time, you have another two ways to get to the University.
If you decide to go by taxi, please go to the taxi stand. Do not forget to ask for invoice when you get off. The estimated fare is 130 yuan.
You can take the airport shuttle bus to Renmin Square, and take a taxi from there to Jilin University. Estimated fare 40 yuan.
Changchun South Railway Station
Option 1. Take a taxi to Youyi Guesthouse of Jilin University in Qianweinan District ( 200 meters east to the intersection of Xiuzheng Road and Zhiyuan Road). It is about 17 miles, a 45 min drive, estimated fare 35 yuan.
Option 2. Walk 130 meters from the Station to Nanhudalu Station on Light Rail Line 3. Take Line 3 (bound for Changying Shiji City) and get off at Guigu Dajie Station. Walk 1.2 miles to Youyi Guesthouse of Jilin University.
Changchun North Railway Station
Option 1. Taxi. About 22.4 miles, 38 minutes, 46 yuan.
Option 2. Walk through the South-North tunnel to the South Railway Station.
Changchun West Railway Station
Get out of the Station and take a taxi to Youyi Guesthouse of Jilin University (No.1505 Xiuzheng Road). About 14 miles. 35 minutes. 30 yuan.

Visa Affairs
Student whose study period exceeds 6 months should apply for residence permit at the public security authority. According to Chinese laws, the stay after the valid visa period without a residence permit or without an extended visa period constitutes illegal stay. Illegal residents will be punished by the public security authority or be repatriated. The economic punishment of illegal stay is 500 yuan per day (subject to an upper limit of 10000 yuan). After registration, we will organize physical check and residence permit application for all students. Application for one-year visa costs 400 yuan.

Accommodation
To ensure safety and to help international students adjust to the new environment, the university requires international students to live in the dormitory for the first year. After a year of transition, students can choose rental accommodation outside the campus. The university has no obligation in solving any financial or any other issues arising from off-campus renting.

Insurance
The university adopts a full-coverage insurance system for international students. Every student should purchase insurance according to the requirements of the Chinese government and the University. Tuition-paying international students are covered by collective insurance, which means Jilin University will pay insurance premiums for them. International students from partner universities who are exempt from tuition fees should pay insurance premiums directly to China Ping An Pension Insurance Co., Ltd. by themselves after registration. Those who do not participate in insurance will be refused registration and expelled. Students will be informed of how to pay insurance premiums after registration.
Climate in Changchun
Changchun has four distinct seasons with a short dry windy spring, a hot and rainy summer, a cool fall with large temperature differences and a long cold winter. The average temperature of the hottest month – July, is 23°C(73.4°F). The average temperature of the coldest month – January, is 15.1°C(4.82°F).In northern china, the heating season is from November to March. Please keep in mind these facts while packing.

Renminbi Exchange
Foreign currency exchange: In China, only banks provide foreign exchange services. Please ask the bank clerk if they have the currency you need. Sometimes you need to make an appointment with the bank for them to prepare the currency. Non-Chinese citizens can only exchange for no more than $ 500 a day. If you need large amounts of foreign currency, please plan ahead. When you convert for foreign currency, please take your passport. The exchange rate varies among banks.
Telegraphic transfer: Since the bank needs a few days to complete the telegraphic transfer, please bring enough cash with you to cover the living expenses of the first month.
Cash withdraw limit: There are daily upper limits on credit card and debit card consumption. Please confirm with your bank the daily consumption limits of your credit/debit card in China.
